FARM KITCHEN Healdsburg, CA
How do you renovate a home that was designed to look like it’s been there forever without destroying its essential character?
Despite generous proportions and direct access to the outdoors, the existing kitchen felt gloomy and cut off from views of the surrounding farm and landscaped grounds. We removed a wall, no simple undertaking in this thick-walled, rammed-earth home, and replaced it with a steel window and door system to flood the interior with light and views, and widen the doorways for easier indoor-outdoor living.
Inside, a combination of traditional shaker-style cabinets and modern detailing at the large island blurs the line between old and new, weaving them into the fabric of the existing home while subtly nodding to the present.
