THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CINEMATOGRAPHERS EDUCATION CENTER Hollywood, CA
Designed to house the ASC staff and be completed in time for their upcoming 100th anniversary in 2019, this small office building was conceived as a prefabricated but highly site-specific kit of parts for rapid assembly, sustainability, and affordability.
A bolt-together steel frame supports a skin of glass and insulated metal panels, which provide insulation, waterproofing, and interior/exterior finishes in one prefabricated package. A roof monitor brings light deep into the interior, while broad overhangs all around shield occupants from the abundant Hollywood sunshine and reference low-slung midcentury architecture.
The building’s sustainable highlights include an efficient, factory pre-fabricated structure and wall panels, an under-floor ventilation system that pre-cools or heats the air depending on the season by utilizing the earth’s stable year-round temperature, mineral wool insulation, and onsite rainwater retention. The concrete, steel, and glass structure is designed for low maintenance and long life.
Currently under construction. Completion scheduled for 3rd quarter 2019.
